One of the four key activities of the Ethiopian Water Technology Institute (EWTI) is providing regular and on-demand training focused on water sector capacity building. Yesterday late afternoon there was bilateral (Strengthening Climate Resilient Wash System TAP (SCRS) and EWTI) training closing ceremony.
The Job Induction training was directly prepared and organized by SCRSWASH-TAP for Micro and Small Enterprise Members who are organized on maintenance of water supply works and coming and need to join the sector from Sokoru and Liben woreda of Oromia regional state.
Mr. Tamiru Fikadu, Deputy Director General of the Institute, who was present at the closing session of the training, conveyed his message to the trainees that the job induction training should be enhanced through practical-oriented training and skills so that our society can benefit from safe drinking water and sanitation. The deputy director general emphasized that the institute is working hard to ensure that the trainings are not only functional but also solve society’s problems, and the trainees are expected to solve the difficulties in their area and make your community benefit from safe drinking water and sanitation by any means.
On the words of Mr. Zewdu Seifu, representative of SCRSWASH-TAP and coordinator of the training, Induction ensures that new employees are initiated into the expectations, performance, work culture, and experience sharing. When used strategically, the induction process can increase MSE members retention by helping them understand their role and responsibilities. Mr. Zewdu concluded that this kind of bilateral training will be given for those who are members of MSE.
Representatives of trainees appreciated the organizer of the training (SCRSWASH-TAP) and EWTI and believe that the Job induction training encourages their members confidence and helps the new employee adapt faster to the job; contributes to a more effective, productive workforce; improves employee retention; and promotes communication between the members and the new employee.
The primary direct target group for this project objective will be managers, board members, and operators of multi-village schemes (MVS), micro- and small enterprises, and regional and woreda water sector professionals found throughout the country. Furthermore, institutions and experts who were involved in the project and benefited from it (government organizations such as EWTI, TVETCs, MoWE, and non-governmental organizations such as SCRS WaSH Project and WaterAid-Ethiopia) will benefit from the project outputs.
In addition to the Deputy Director General of the Institute, Director of Water Technology Education and Training, Alemayehu Gudeta, the trainers of the training fields, and the training coordinators were present. The overall goal of the capacity development program given by the three parties is to strengthen the climate-resilient WASH system throughout Ethiopia using EWTI. The project is planned to be executed in two years and will be implemented within the framework of an agreement among the three parties.
